I will be in the MTC from Feb. 6 to Mar. 18. After that, I will be in Romania. A helpful resource to sending letters to missionaries is www.dearelder.com. I highly recommend it. It takes out some of the hassle. If you'd rather send me a letter yourself, here's instructions on how to do so! Note that pouch mail is an option, but it significantly limits what you can send.

Mailing Information for Families (Mar. 18-Aug. 2014)

Nearly all the packages that are shipped from the States to Romania come to our missionaries by regular postal mail services. They arrive in pretty good shape, but occasionally we have received some that have been opened or damaged. Secure packages well and be cautious about ending valuable items. Be aware that it may take over a month for us to receive your packages, and sometimes they will sit in the mission office anywhere from one to four weeks before we can get them out to your missionary. Allow plenty of time and don’t ship anything that will go bad before that amount of time. Don’t mail valuables such as cameras, CD players or other electronics. The missionary should bring such items to the MTC. Most of these items can be purchased here in Romania.

Missionaries love to receive mail from home. Letters can be sent through regular mail to the address posted on the front page of this newsletter (see address below). Please be sure to write a first and last name on the envelope as we often have missionaries with the same last name.

When you send packages to your missionary, please omit the title of “Elder” or “Sora” as well as the title of the mission, “Romania/Moldova Mission”. Here is an example of how to address your package:

Mary A. Doe
Sos. Pipera Nr. 41 Et. 7
Bucharest, Romania 014254

Please follow this pattern to assure accurate and prompt delivery of all missionary mail.

Pouch mail is also available for missionaries, as described in the call letter, but may take some time.

Pouch Mail Instructions:

The church provides pouch mail service to your mission. Items sent by pouch mail use the USPS from your location to church headquarters, where they are forwarded to he missionary by a private courier along with other church mail. Pouch mail leaves church headquarters each Friday. Items received after the pouch has been sent will be held for the next week. Only postcards or one-page correspondences (no envelopes) written on one side of the page may be sent through the pouch. Notebook or other light-weight paper will not process through the USPS machines. Photographs are not acceptable.

Items restricted from the pouch may be sent through the USPS or a private courier. Cash is not accepted for conveyance by any courier. Please consult with the USPS or the courier of your choice to determine allowable items, as they will vary by delivery location.

Letter folding instructions: Lay the letter blank side down. Fold the bottom of the letter about one-third of the way up the page and crease. Fold the top of the letter to the bottom of the first fold and crease. Secure the long side with two pieces of tape about one inch in from each end, but do not seal the ends. In the top left corner write your name and complete return address. Affix first class postage in the top right corner. In the middle write the missionary address as follows:
